John has over 30 years’ experience as a professional archaeologist, following graduation in 1981. He is a member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (MCIfA) and also a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London (FSA). His career has included five years as the Principal Archaeologist within a London Borough planning team prior to which he worked for almost ten years in London as a site archaeologist, manager and consultant. John then spent over 10 years at Wessex Archaeology as Operations and then Development Director.
John joined Cotswold Archaeology in 2012 and is the Deputy Chief Executive. He also established and heads up our Andover office, which has grown to a team of 40 staff in four years. He has an enormous breadth of knowledge covering all aspects of the historic environment – buried, built, landscape and marine. He has played a senior role on some of the largest infrastructure projects in the UK including the Jubilee Line Extension, the M6 Toll, High Speed 1 and Heathrow Terminal 5. John also leads for CA on major tenders and joint ventures – the most recent JV is that between Cotswold, Oxford and Pre-Construct Archaeology: COPA. He was recently appointed to the role of COPA Project Director and leads the team in developing future work on High Speed 2.
