Since graduating from the University of Cardiff in 1993, Simon has accumulated extensive experience in professional British field archaeology, initially working on various sites in Gloucestershire, Avon and Essex. For seven years he worked for Bristol Council on both rural and urban projects, during which time Simon developed a specialism for deeply-stratified urban excavations, particularly medieval and post-medieval waterfront sites and town defences.

Simon moved to Cotswold Archaeology as a Project Manager in 2001 and has continued to work on major urban projects throughout the UK, as well as large-scale rural evaluations, excavations and infrastructure schemes. He has particular specialisms in the archaeology of Bristol, and Bath, and medieval and post-medieval archaeology more generally.

A member of the Senior Management Team Simon has overall responsibility for maintaining the high quality, efficiency and safety of CA’s fieldwork operations across all four office. This includes leading the development of CA’s award winning Career Development Programme, and developing the innovative application of Information Technology, such as 3D photography, to enhance the quality of recording, visualisation and dissemination of the results of our fieldwork.
