The Archaeology of the A417 “Missing Link”

From Spring 2023 to Summer 2025, Oxford Cotswold Archaeology (OCA) undertook archaeological mitigation works along the route of the A417 “Missing Link” improvement project, on behalf of Kier Transportation and National Highways. The archaeological excavations covered over 600,000m², and features were identified from across 12,000 years of human occupation. With fieldwork now complete, OCA are able to share the exciting discoveries from across the project, which tell us how people have used this part of the Cotswolds since the Mesolithic

This event is one of a series of  Store-to-Stories talk, linked to the Store-to-Store volunteering project, aiming uncovering Gloucester’s Archaeological Treasures.  Cotswold Archaeology, working with the Museum of Gloucester, are working with volunteers to help sort, re-box and consolidate the archaeological artefacts, documentary and photographic evidence held by the museum. The project, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, will see the Museum’s stores sorted, reviewed and repacked to ensure their long-term preservation.
