This double-sided comb has been made from a series of bone plates which have been riveted together using long side plates.

The teeth on both sides of the comb are of a consistent size suggesting an earlier Anglo-Saxon date. Earlier Roman combs and later Viking and Early Medieval combs often have one row of coarse teeth and one row of fine teeth.

Anglo-Saxon combs are common objects from both burial and domestic sites. This comb was recovered from a sunken feature building, a typical Anglo-Saxon building built over a shallow pit with a suspended floor. These are suggested to have been domestic dwellings but are also often associated with weaving equipment.
