Gold quarter stater
description
Gold quarter stater of Snettisham type, dating to around 15 BC to AD 5.
It is an Iceni issue (1.15g) that corresponds to Talbot Dies A (obverse) and 2 (reverse). This is a very rare variety, with the elaborate reverse die, which depicts a right-facing horse with a large pellet on its chest.
The coin was found in a silted-up channel that had once been a tributary of the River Lark, and it is possible that it had been deliberately placed as an offering.
