This is a composite scale-tang knife handle of common end-cap type. It was in use between the 15th-17th centuries.

The handle comprises of a small surviving fragment of bone which has been decorated with a ring and dot design.

The end-cap is made from copper alloy in the form of a horse’s hoof. The base features five indentations which represent horseshoe nails, and the central groove characterises the frog.
