Jug Spout
description
This fragment comes from an unusual medieval jug with a single spout shaped as an animal head. It was probably intended to represent a fish or a mythical beast.
The jug is made in a local Redcliffe green-glazed fabric, which was in use from the mid 13th century.
The vessel form is comparable to more complex puzzle jugs which had multiple spouts, suggesting a decorative or playful element in its design rather than being purely functional.
