Shale spindle whorl
description
Biconical spindle whorl with flat upper/lower faces.
Spinning was undertaken using a drop spindle and a distaff which held the prepared fibres, although as most spindles and distaffs were made of wood it is usually only the disc-shaped or spherical spindle whorls that survive.
