‘Supporting arm’ brooch
description
The brooch is of ‘supporting arm’ form, with a sprung pin, and arched bow which is decorated with cast concentric circles.
It was recorded from the right shoulder area of the adult male skeleton.
This class is related to Late Roman Crossbow brooches, but of continental origin. A recent study of examples from the northern France, Germany and the Netherlands suggests dating in the 430-470 AD range.
