Cotswold Archaeology requires promising, talented and experienced archaeologists to join our teams in Milton Keynes and Suffolk (Needham Market), to assist in the excavation of a range of exciting rural and urban archaeological projects, of many different periods. With a strong ongoing portfolio of fieldwork we are looking for hard-working and dedicated individuals to join our team.
We have projects located close to our offices and also schemes further afield where we provide accommodation, with good opportunities for accruing lieu and overtime.

Archaeologists (£20,325 – £21,261)
Ideally, candidates for the post of Archaeologist will be able to demonstrate their competence in core fieldwork skills through provision of a completed Archaeology Skills Passport (http://www.archaeologyskills.co.uk/project/core-skills/) or similar training log provided by another employer, and completed during previous experience working for commercial British archaeological practices.
Your core skills and experience should include manual excavation and recording of archaeological features, and the recovery of artefacts or samples. You should also be able to complete stratigraphic matrices, photograph archaeological features and sites, and compose accurate measured drawings. Familiarity with GPS surveying is desirable.
Experienced Archaeologists (£21,799)
We are also looking for more experienced field archaeologists to assist our Supervisors with the training and mentoring of Trainee Archaeologists and with machine supervision. Candidates with demonstrable and considerable commercial archaeological fieldwork experience, who can provide documented evidence of their proficiency both in core fieldwork skills and machine supervision/watching brief, staff training/development and an aptitude for GPS survey, will be eligible for the higher starting salary. In date training in the use of CAT and Genny equipment is also desirable.
For both roles, membership of the CIfA at PCIfA level is desirable, as is possession of a current and valid CSCS Health and Safety Card, and a full driving licence. However, CSCS training can be arranged for those who do not currently possess a valid card. Personal protective equipment will be issued for the duration of employment.
Trainee Archaeologists (£19650)
Like many of those that join our award winning trainee archaeologist programme you might be a recent graduate with a degree or masters in a relevant subject; you may have graduated some time ago but never realised your ambitions to enter the profession; or you may have no formal archaeology related qualifications but your passion and interest in the subject is attracting you to developing a career in the sector. Whatever your background, skills, experience, qualifications and ambitions, we would love to hear from you.
Our trainee programme has been developed with the flexibility to respond to a wide variety of individual’s education and work experience. The training includes all the core skills required to be effective as an Archaeologist including; excavation, drawing, photography and sampling.
In the past few years, over 50 trainees have successfully completed our programme. You will begin with a 6 month contact, which should be ample time to complete your training.
